Roya came to life in the midst of fronter Rahill Jamalifard wanting to record some solo songs, asking guitarist/producer Jay Heiselmann and legendary drummer Hamish Kilgour for help, and suddenly becoming a five-piece band with a number of collaborators. It was a purely organic formation that truly solidified Roya and their post-punk sound.

After a year and a half of playing shows and recording, Roya is finally set to release their debut album early this spring. We got a chance to have a brief conversation with Rahill and Jay one day in Queens. Watch the full thing below:
